Who Can Apply?

Nationality and Domicile

The applicant must be an Indian citizen. Along with this, the candidate should be an original inhabitant of Assam and must be registered in any District Employment Office of Assam. In addition, the candidate should be able to speak Assamese or any other official/tribal language of Assam.

Educational Qualification

The candidate must have a Graduate (Bachelor’s) Degree from any recognized university, regardless of the stream. The good thing is that final year students can also apply however, they will have to show their degree certificate at the time of the Mains exam.

How Will Selection Be Done?

The selection process of APSC CCE has three stages. Performance in each stage decides the path to the next stage.

Stage 1 – Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)

This is a screening exam which is only qualifying in nature. It has 2 papers, each paper carrying 200 marks and 2 hours duration. There is also negative marking in Prelims 1/4 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. Candidates who qualify in Prelims will be called for Mains.

Stage 2 – Main Examination (Descriptive Type)

The Mains exam consists of a total of 6 papers, including Essay and General Studies. Each paper is of 250 marks. This exam will be conducted only in Guwahati. The marks of Mains carry the highest weightage in the final merit list.

Stage 3 – Interview / Personality Test

Candidates who qualify in Mains will be called for an Interview of 180 marks. Here, the overall personality, leadership quality and administrative suitability of the candidate are assessed.

How Is Final Selection Done?

  • Prelims is only a qualifying stage its marks are not added to the merit.
  • Final merit is prepared on the basis of Mains marks + Interview marks.
  • Post allocation is based on the candidate’s rank, preferences and reservation category.
  • The Commission recommends only as many candidates as there are vacancies announced.

How Much Salary And Growth Will You Get?

The salary package after selection through APSC CCE is quite good. For posts like Assam Civil Service and Assam Police Service, the pay range is from ₹22,000 to ₹1,10,000 this varies according to the post and grade. Apart from this, facilities like DA (Dearness Allowance), HRA (House Rent Allowance), medical benefits and job security are also provided.

  4. Login and fill the CCE 2025-26 application form.

Where Will the Prelims Exams Be Held?

For the Preliminary Examination, 34 centres have been created across Assam, including Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Silchar, Jorhat, Tezpur and other major cities. However, the Main Exam will be held only in Guwahati so prepare to travel to Guwahati for Mains.

Since the Prelims exam is on 5 July 2026, only about two and a half months are left from now. Therefore, start preparation without delay. Focus on General Studies (History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Science), Assam GK and Current Affairs. The CSAT paper is qualifying, but do not ignore it.
