For electrical engineering graduates and diploma holders across Punjab, April 2026 has brought along one of the most talked-about government job notifications of the year. The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, better known as PSPCL, has officially announced 622 vacancies for the post of Junior Engineer Electrical under Advertisement No. CRA 316/26, and the online application process is already live as of April 20, 2026.

What makes this recruitment particularly exciting is not just the number of posts. It is the combination of everything together. A government job in one of Punjab’s most important public sector organisations, a starting salary of Rs 35,400 per month, long-term career stability, and a clear two-stage selection process that gives every eligible candidate a fair shot. For anyone who has been preparing for engineering government jobs in the state, this one genuinely checks all the right boxes.
The application window is open from April 20 to May 10, 2026, which means you have a few weeks to get everything in order. However, since these windows tend to get crowded toward the deadline and technical issues are common on the last few days, starting early is always the smarter move.
In this article, we have put together everything you need to know before applying, from eligibility criteria and fee details to the exam pattern, salary structure, and step by step application process. So read through carefully, check your eligibility first, and get your application submitted well before May 10.

Salary and Probation Details
Selected candidates will receive a basic pay of Rs 35,400 per month as per the 7th CPC Pay Matrix. However, during the probation period of three years, candidates will receive only this minimum basic pay. No DA, grade pay, or annual increment is paid during probation. After probation ends, all applicable allowances kick in, and the estimated in-hand salary can go up to Rs 45,000 to Rs 55,000 per month depending on allowances.
After selection, candidates will also be required to undergo training at the Technical Training Institute, PSPCL, Patiala. Once the appointment letter is issued, candidates get 21 days to join.
How the Selection Works
The selection process has two clear stages, and both must be cleared for final appointment:
Stage 1: Online Computer-Based Test (CBT) The exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks in a duration of 2 hours. The sections covered are Electrical Engineering, Punjabi Language, General Knowledge, Reasoning Ability, and General English. There is negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer, so guessing randomly is not a good strategy.
Minimum qualifying marks are 45% for General category candidates and 35% for all reserved categories. If the exam is held in multiple shifts, normalization will be applied to ensure fairness.
Stage 2: Document Verification Candidates shortlisted on the basis of CBT merit will be called for document verification. Only those clearing both stages will make it to the final selection panel.
